We are offering a funded Theatre Commission to be shown as part of Horizons Festival 2024!
This opportunity is for artists based in Greater Manchester who have lived experience of displacement or seeking sanctuary.
This commission offers £1,000 of financial support. In order to apply, you must be aged 18+ and you must have the right to work in the UK.
About the Theatre Commission:
This commission is intended for somebody who has experience of making theatre and is looking to develop their creative practice for Manchester audiences. This commission is available to individuals or small groups of no more than 2 performers. We are interested in commissions that fit with this year’s festival theme Our Planet,
Our Home in your pitch for the commission. We encourage artists to use our explanation of the theme as a guideline and welcome you to interpret it as you wish.
There are two commissions available, each commission will receive a package of support including funding, space and mentoring.

Horizons Festival Theme:
The theme for Horizons festival this year is Our Planet, Our Home which is an expansion of the National Refugee Week 2024 theme of Our Home. This theme was chosen and created through an open consultation with artists in Manchester who create work relevant to Horizons festival. Our Planet, Our Home is a way of expressing that no matter what country we come from, we are all citizens of planet Earth – removing the idea of borders and emphasizing connection, whilst also holding the importance of nature and climate justice.

Please submit an idea (in english) by email using the header: Theatre Commission.
You can submit either:
- A short video explaining your idea (no more than 2 minutes)
- A short description of your idea (no more than 500 words)
You should also include a sentence or two about yourself.
You may also include:
- Information or images of your previous work
- A link to your work on social media or website

All ideas will be considered by a panel from HOME and CAN. All applicants will be
notified of the status of their application by Feb 2024. Unfortunately, we cannot
provide feedback to all applicants.
